The relationship between Àlex Rigola and the work of Roberto Bolaño is both profound and fruitful. After the acclaimed adaptation of 2666 comes this story, which was conceived at the Berlin Schaubühne and premiered at the Venice Biennale.
El policía de las ratas [Police Rat] is a thriller and a detective story about difference and art. It is a tale that pays homage to, challenges and ultimately surpasses the dramatic tension of Kafka's short story Josephine the Singer, or the Mouse Folk. It is at times like the present, when we are seen more as a controlled mass (which is traded and manipulated) than as human beings, when we most need to reclaim the space for each person's individual and creative brilliance. Rather than merely being an accounting entry for the political and economic powers that be. The "individual", "unusual" and "strange" must also coexist with the collective.
