A high place. An open space that encourages observation and reflection. With horizons, dreams and doubts to confront reality, to discuss and talk freely. This area has been created for the 2015/16 season, and brings together several initiatives around the stage and the scheduled productions. A viewpoint.
THE CRAFTS OF THE THEATRE
Between November and March, the theatre will be opening up to spectators wishing to find out all about the crafts of the theatre at first hand. This season, we offer you a workshop divided into two monthly sessions for a more in-depth understanding of the theatre, considered in terms not only of what we see when we are spectators at a production. The workshop will have an initial capacity of 40 places, some of which will be reserved for pass holders.
How do rehearsals work? Why does one show last longer than another? When does work start in the theatre? What does lighting a performance involve? Who says when the show begins, and why? How is a season programmed? How is a theatre managed?
People come to us with many questions and doubts that we would like to answer from within. In the series of eight sessions, we will try and cover all the internal aspects of the craft of the theatre, which end up taking shape as a performance. Being able to find out more about them simply seems to us to be a way of enhancing the public's critical perspective on the artistic experience.
The ÀGORA LLIURE-UPF began the second season of collaboration with Pompeu Fabra University after successfully carrying out an exchange project that aims to strengthen the links between the theatre and academia.
In these first few months, we have programmed round table discussions with renowned lecturers and had a public debate about the ethics of banking, the North American crisis and the crash of 1929, the value of money and the manipulation of public opinion. Meanwhile, La Kompanyia Lliure has received master classes on the preparation process for some characters; the UPF Theatre Workshop has attended rehearsals and enjoyed explanations by directors and authors on how a theatrical adaptation takes place, and Audiovisual Communication students have been able to engage in a dialogue about the language of film in theatre and work placements in some of the productions.
So we start the second year, ready to take the debate beyond a simple artistic discussion, helped by a programme that provides a wide range of subjects. The main itineraries that the Lliure presents this year are truth and fiction, individual and tragedy, violence and power and politically incorrect, and we hope they are an encouragement for an in-depth reflection on the conflicts generated by the identities we shoulder as a society and as individuals. The productions we present can help us question our sense of connection with our homeland, faith and political, ethical and gender commitment. An intersection of identities which include topical issues such as state terror, freedom of expression and collective memory.
The Àgora Lliure-UPF aims to be - in keeping with the commitment by the university and the theatre - a communal space where we can sit and talk.
