The first stretch on the route eastwards this season passes through Russia. The director Pau Carrió brings the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel to the stage. It is a titanic carousel of actions and emotions, on the fine line between good and evil, innocence and perversity. With Pol López in the role of Raskólnikov, exploring the boundaries of ethics and morality.

The theatrical adaptation of Crime and punishment came about as a continuation of the Pau Carrió's reflections while he was staging his version of Hamlet, and the consequences of an idealised view of the ability of action to change the world. It is this revolutionary ideal that links Hamlet with Raskolnikov, the protagonist of Dostoevsky's novel. Far from being a realistic dramatic construction, the project operates on several levels, which examine the presence of violence in society and individuals. These range from questioning the lawful use that the state can make of violence, to getting into the mind of the character and the fever that leads him to commit an atrocity. It also seeks to understand the play based on the feeling of the end of an era that the author evokes like no other Russian writer, combining the portrait of a society which lives alongside extreme misery and the yearnings of a generation to transform the world, in which violence - even in its extreme form - emerges as an inevitable instrument, leaving moral or ethical considerations aside.
